The Heart of Scotstoun

At Spiral Creative Arts Therapies SCIO, we are dedicated to enhancing the lives of children, young people, and their families through therapeutic arts-based activities. Our mission is to provide a supportive environment where individuals can express themselves creatively and build resilience.  On the 25th of September Spiral was invited to attend the Commonweal Presentation evening as the charity received £3646 for our project to support young people has access to our project here in Scotstoun.

Heart of Scotstoun Project

We are excited to announce our latest project, the Heart of Scotstoun, which aims to bring together young people in kinship care and their families for group therapeutic art sessions at the Heart of Scotstoun community centre. This initiative is designed to foster community engagement, enhance social integration, and improve the quality of life for disadvantaged young people in Glasgow.

Project Highlights:

  • Weekly Sessions: Free weekly therapeutic art sessions led by two experienced therapeutic artists.

  • Holistic Development: Focus on the holistic development of participants, addressing their emotional, social, and creative needs.

  • Community Engagement: Encouraging participation in community-based activities to build a sense of belonging and reduce isolation

This service enables young people who have had therapy with Spiral to take part in our therapeutic art sessions outside of our therapist sessions, to interact with likemided individuals and have the space to enhance and support young people.

Impact on Local Community

The Heart of Scotstoun project will significantly benefit vulnerable children and young people impacted by poverty. By providing a safe and nurturing environment for creative expression, we aim to:

  • Enhance Creativity and Self-Esteem: Helping young people develop their artistic skills and build confidence.

  • Improve Mental Health: Offering emotional support and mentorship from trained professionals.

  • Foster Social Skills: Encouraging social interaction and community involvement outside of therapy.

Angela Bialek, Director of Spiral, expressed gratitude to Glasgow Commonweal for their assistance and support. She stated, "Our Heart of Scotsoun project offers young people a safe environment where they can participate in a therapeutic art class and connect with like-minded individuals."

Can you support Spiral? We are a small organisation based in Glasgow that provides therapeutic arts services to young people throughout the city. Our work focuses on supporting young people living in kinship care.

You can help us by making a one-time or regular donation to keep our vital community services running. Alternatively, you can participate in Yaldi – the Glasgow Community Lottery. For as little as £1 a week, every ticket purchased through our website contributes 50% to our charity. Thank you for your support!
